Next morning we awoke to another sunny day, already moored in Stavanger<\/em>, Norway.<\/p>\n

We took a beautiful cruise up one of the nearby fjords, the Lysefjord, to view a rock formation called “Pulpit Rock”. The steep fjord walls in one place allowed the tour-boat to come right up to the wall and scoop drinking water from a waterfall.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The local tour guide was French.\u00a0 She spoke very good English and was very charming, but she did not have a lot of Norwegian knowledge.\u00a0 At one point she was asked, \u201cWhat is that house to the right?\u201d, and she announced over the microphone, \u201cSomeone asked me what that house is to the right.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know, but there it is, to the right\u201d.<\/p>\n

After our return, P.J went back to the ship.\u00a0 The ship\u2019s cold epidemic got her and she has also had more trouble walking.<\/p>\n

I improvised my own city walking tour.\u00a0 Stavanger on a Sunday was the opposite of Bergen the previous day.\u00a0 In Norway, most things are closed on Sundays.\u00a0 The only occasional crowds I ran into were Holland America Line tour groups that paid money for what I was doing on my own.\u00a0 It was also less warm than in Bergen and strolling around was very pleasant.<\/p>\n

Later in the afternoon the weather gradually deteriorated.\u00a0 After I returned to the ship it started to rain, the first rain we have seen while on shore during our entire cruise.\u00a0 We were lucky after all.<\/p>\n
