Woke up several times in the night, but slept well in between. Did the usual “anchor watch worry” bit as boats slewed around at random in the night, but no problem. Up at first light and took a picture of the red sky in the East before the sun appeared. Wind is rising at 8 AM WNN, so it looks like a beat to get home—but we have all day. Checking the tide current to see what to expect.
High tide at New London, 5:18 AM, assume same at race ebb starts ÷ low at 11:50 flood starts. It is now 8:18 = 3 hours after ebb starts—adverse flow 1.5 knots off Crane’s Point. At 9:18, 1.0 knots adverse, at 1:18, 0.5 knots, at 11:50, favorable at 0.9 knots. PM: 5:45 ebb starts again, 1.1 knot adverse off Eaton’s Neck.
It took ~ 4 hours from Eaton’s Neck to here yesterday, 3 PM to 7 PM, with motor on for the last hour and a half.
If we assume, first cut, that if we leave at 9:18 and proceed at 3 knots—that’s 20 minutes per mile—and it takes 8 hours, we would be home at 6 PM.
Things to Remember for Boat: Magnifying glass, binoculars, bathing cap, new dodger, fill small gas tank, engine tune-up—plug wrench.
