Voyage of the Vikings 2014

Veendam3 In July and August 2014, Arjan and P.J. embarked on a tour of the lands the Vikings made their own in times gone by.

The first half of the trip (17 days) was a Holland America Line cruise on the ms Veendam from Boston to Amsterdam, and the second half (23 days) was our own visit to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Since WordPress lists the most recent post first, use these helpful links to follow our trip as it happened (more or less in reverse of the Viking conquests):

Note: Use the small links at the top or bottom of each page to move from post to post (no thanks to WordPress for making chronological order so difficult!).

We began in our home port of Boston on the Holland America Line on July 12, 2014. The Voyage of the Vikings cruise visited Newfoundland, Labrador, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Norway, arriving in Amsterdam at the end of July.

After landing, we visited friends and family in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Groningen. From Groningen, we took the train to Brussels, where we boarded the EuroStar for a high-speed train ride through the Chunnel (Channel Tunnel) to London.

After a few days in London, we headed to Devon to visit more friends in South West England. After Devon, we drove through Wales to Manchester, England, for the Icelandair flight home via Reykjavík, Iceland.
